Itinerary for The South Shore in Two Days

Day 1

1

Pick-up

Passengers get picked up in their accommodation in Reykjavík.
2

Seljalandsfoss Waterfall

Have you ever walked behind a waterfall?  Well, now you can!  Seljalandsfoss is magical with its elfish backdrop and walk-behind feature.
3

Skógafoss Waterfall

This magnificent waterfall drops of the cliffs that once were the coastline of the south shore, before the coastline receded.
4

Lunch in Vík

Vík is a picturesque town on the South Shore, where we’ll stop for lunch.
5

Skaftafell

The magical radiance from Skaftafelljökull Glacier can truly be felt in the oasis of Skaftafell.  We’ll hike up to the glacier.
6

Svartifoss (optional)

Svartifoss might not be grand in size but it sure is grand in its magnificence.  The black basalt columns frame the waterfall, which looks more like straight out of a Lord of the Rings scene than actual natural landscape.  The hike is 90 minutes back and forth, and is optional.
7

Dinner and Overnight Stay

Well stay overnight and have dinner in a nice country hotel in Öræfi.

Day Two

1

Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon

Stepping out of the car in Jökulsárlón is like stepping into a movie.  Gigantic icebergs float on the clear-blue lagoon and seals swim around, poking their heads out of the water to take a good look at us humans.  We’ll even take a boat-tour on the lagoon to see the icebergs up close!
2

Hof Turf Church

We’ll stop by the Hof Church, which is a tiny turf church.
3

Lunch at Systrakaffi, Kirkjubæjarklaustur

Systrakaffi is a cute family owned restaurant, named after the sisters of the convent of Benedictine nuns, Kirkjubæjar Abbey, which was located in Kirkjubæjarklaustur.
4

Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon

Fjaðrárgljúfur is a magnificent and massive canyon, about 100 meters deep and about two kilometers long.
5

Reynisfjara Black Beach.

Black sand, caves, basalt columns and extremely powerful waves.  What more can you dream of?
6

Dyrhólaey Cape

The view from Dyrhólaey is truly breathtaking!  The amazing Atlantic Ocean stretches as far as the eye can see and the massive arc made of rock is spectacular with its gaping hole in the middle.
7

Return to Reykjavík

After a day packed with wonders we’ll head back to Reykjavík, or to the accommodation of your wishes.
