Payment
There are no hidden fees. The listed price is the price you pay. Including tax.
We understand that you may not have a printer handy when you’re traveling so it is not necessary to have a printed copy. However, we require that you show ID matching your reservation and also the order number that is immediately emailed to you after you make your reservation.
The price for a private tour can vary greatly and depends on the length of the tour, the add-on activities, vehicle and guiding requirements, entry fees etc. Each private tour request is treated individually and you will be given a personalized quote for your tour.
As an example, a half-day tour with no meals or activities included can costs as little as 17.000 ISK per person. On the other end of the spectrum, a three day tour with multiple activities, meals and accommodation included may cost up to 200.000 ISK per person.

Yes, we ask that our clients pay the participation fee as soon as the booking is made. We know this can be a large sum, but keep in mind that up to 90% of the fee is refundable. See our terms and conditions for more info.
In some cases, our payment processor, Borgun, may not accept very large payments, or payments made in certain currencies or credit cards. Please contact info@thisisiceland.is if you have any problems with payments.
Preparation
Wear whatever is comfortable. It is recommended to have a sturdy pair of broken-in trail shoes, boots, or sneakers. It is preferable to dress in layers and wear clothing that will wick away perspiration and keep you dry and comfortable.

You will be sent a full kit list before your tour. Each tour varies slightly but here is a bit of general information:
CLOTHING – Weather in Iceland is unpredictable and unforgiving. It can snow, rain, and shine in the span of one summer day, so always bring a good set of warm outdoor clothes.
FOR TOURS THAT INCLUDE HIKING the following is recommended equipment:
- Hiking boots in good condition – Trainers or shoes with no ankle protection are not acceptable.
- Waterproof jacket and waterproof trousers.
- Comfortable socks – wool is best.
- Clothing suitable for the weather conditions: T-shirt & shorts if hot or trousers and sweater if cold.
- Hiking trousers – absolutely no jeans!
- A pair of gloves or mittens and a warm hat.
- Sun protection – Hat, sunglasses, sunscreen.
- Rucksack – Lightweight and water-resistant.
- Cottons are to be avoided at all costs.
FOR PRIVATE TOURS INCLUDING GLACIER ACTIVITIES, sunglasses, sunscreen, gloves, and layered clothing is mandatory. No sun protection or inappropriate clothing = No tour.
FOOD AND DRINK – All our trips include food, but it’s always nice to pack a few snacks. Drinks are not included in any of the tours, so please bring a minimum of 1 litre of water per person or more if your trip includes hiking.
MEDICAL NEEDS – all of our vehicles and guides carry a first aid kit. They do not, however, carry any specialized medication or medical equipment for personal use, such as EpiPens, insulin, allergy medication, inhalers etc. Please remember to bring any such necessities with you and please inform your guide and the rest of the group about their location and proper usage.
WHEN STAYING IN A MOUNTAIN HUT you must bring a sleeping bag.
FOR TOURS IN WINTER it is especially important that you wear three layered clothing: A thin, warm base layer, a thick, warm middle layer, and a water and wind resistant outer layer.
USEFUL EXTRAS – Torch (headlight), Penknife, Camera (actually a must), Pen and paper, money.
Reservation
Cancellation of one-day tours
For all bookings of day tours operated by This is Iceland ehf. a minimum of 48 hours’ notice of cancellation is required for a 90% refund. If cancellation is made after these time limits pass no refund is given.
10% of the price of your trip is non-refundable, this percentage reflects our cost of booking and preparing your trip.
Cancellation of Multi-day and Private tours:
As we start to incur costs from the time the contract is confirmed we will apply cancellation charges as shown below from the time when written notification of the cancellation is received:
Cancellations with more than 31 days’ notice before trip departure:
- You will be refunded 90% of the total tour price. 10% is non-refundable, as this represents our direct cost of booking and preparing your tour.
Cancellations with less than 31 days’ notice before trip departure:
- You will be refunded 50% of your total tour price. 50% is non-refundable, as this represents our direct cost of cancelling any arrangements made for your tour, such as sleeping arrangements at hotels and mountain huts.
Cancellations with less than 48-hours’ notice before trip departure:
- No refund will be given if tours are cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice, as This is Iceland will be charged for all costs such as guides, transport, accommodation etc.
Changes and cancellations by This is Iceland
All trips are weather and condition dependent and we reserve the right to change your itinerary or cancel your trip last minute with your safety in mind.
You will be refunded all of your booking fee if This is Iceland cancels your trip when no safety or weather concerns require cancellations. You will be refunded 90% of your booking fee if This is Iceland cancels the trip last minute because of weather or safety concerns.
Northern Light trips carry the inherent risk that no northern lights may be found. In that case, This is Iceland will offer its customers a rebooking of their tour on a different date, but will not offer refunds.
Reservations are required for guaranteed spots on all tours. Reservations help us determine the number of guides we need to ensure that our groups remain manageable and enjoyable, and they allow us to notify you of changes to the tour due to weather or anything that could disturb the tours.
Weather
We go hiking in the rain, snow, wind and any other weather conditions that nature decides to throw at us. After all, we’re going on adventures! If the weather is unsafe for any reason, the trip will be changed or postponed. You will be notified the week of your trip if there are changes due to weather.
